NEW FUJINON XF23mmF2 R WR compact wide-angle lens and two EISA Awards for Fujifilm for the X-Pro2 and FUJINON XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR

25 August 2016

Compact, lightweight & stylish, the high performance XF23mmF2 R WR lens features fast AF, weather and dust resistance, and the ability to operate in low temperatures

Fujifilm announced today that it will introduce the new FUJINON XF23mmF2 R WR compact wide angle lens in late September 2016¹, adding to the award-winning line-up of interchangeable lenses for its X Series digital camera range.

The FUJINON XF23mmF2 R WR is compact, stylish and lightweight at just 180 grams. It has a versatile focal length to 35mm (in the 35mm film format), enabling a range of shooting experiences from snapshots to landscapes and portraits.

Complete with advanced image resolution, the XF23mmF2 R WR is capable of drawing out the full performance of Fujifilm’s proprietary X-TRANS CMOS sensor. It is a similar size and design to the existing XF35mmF2, creating a stylish collection of compact lenses.

Inner-focus AF system

The inner-focus AF system can move relatively small lens elements in the middle or at the rear when focusing. It uses a stepping motor to drive lightweight focusing elements for silent and fast autofocus. The stepping motor only rotates at a fixed angle in response to an electrical pulse signal, and is used in precision positioning. When combined with the phase detection AF system on the X-Pro2 and X-T2, the lens can focus in just 0.05 seconds2.

Advanced image quality

The XF23mmF2 R WR lens consists of 10 elements in six groups, including two aspherical elements. The optimum positioning of the aspherical elements ensures flatness of the image plane for edge-to-edge sharpness. The aspherical elements are used as part of the focusing group to minimise performance fluctuations between different focal distances.

Compact, stylish and lightweight design

The metal exterior – modelled on the design of the XF35mmF2 R WR – gives a sense of premium quality and robustness. When using the optical viewfinder on the Fujifilm X-Pro2 and X-Pro1 cameras, the compact and stylish form factor of the XF23mmF2 R WR almost completely eliminates mechanical vignetting3. The aperture ring and focus ring have been designed for optimum operability with just the right amount of clicking and torque.

Weather and dust resistant

The XF23mmF2 R WR is weather and dust resistant and can operate at temperatures as low as -10°C, making it an ideal choice for outdoor photography. The lens barrel is sealed to make it weather and dust resistant. When mounted on Fujifilm weather and dust resistant mirrorless digital cameras such as the X-Pro2, X-T1 and X-T2, photographers can shoot in light rain or a dusty environment with peace of mind.

Optional accessories

Optional accessories for the XF23mmF2 R WR include a vented metal hood (LH-XF35-2), which is also compatible with the XF35mmF2 R WR lens.

FUJIFILM Australia National Product and Marketing Manager - Electronic Imaging, Alex Zitser, said the compact new wide-angle FUJINON XF23mmF2 R WR is another optimum addition to its premium lens line-up that will complement Fujifilm’s range of high end X Series cameras.

“Fujifilm will continue to focus its research and development on exceptional photographic products that address the needs of photographers,” Mr Zitser said.

The recommended retail price for the new FUJINON XF23mmF2 R WR is $699, including GST. It is expected to be available in Australia in late September 2016.

Fujifilm crowned with double honours at the 2016 EISA Awards

After consistently winning awards for its X Series range over the past five years, Fujifilm has again scooped another two accolades in the 2016 EISA Awards for the X-Pro2 and the FUJINON XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens:

The X-Pro2 is a professional documentary and street photographer’s dream. With its new 24.3 million pixel X-Trans CMOS III sensor, the weather-sealed X-Pro2 delivers incredibly detailed images that can be further enhanced with Fujifilm’s realistic film simulations. The unique hybrid multi viewfinder includes an electronic rangefinder. The X-Pro2 features up to 8fps continuous shooting and electronic shutter speeds up to 1/32,000 of a second.

European Compact System Zoom Lens 2016-2017 – FUJINON XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR

The FUJINON XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR is a super telephoto zoom lens with a 152-609mm range (35mm equivalent), that is ideal for sport and wildlife photography. High-end technologies include ED glass for excellent image quality, even when the lens is used wide open, as well as a fast and silent autofocus. The lens is weather sealed and light for its range.
