See The World Closer with Fujifilm's Extension Tubes

Posted by Fujifilm Australia

Insects, flowers, coins and jewellery are just some of the common subjects you'll get to photograph with the XF60mm F2.4 R Macro lens. The beautifully designed Japanese made lens allows you to get approximately 26.7cm away from a subject with stunning results, and at 0.5x magnification (half of life size) subjects appear much closer than if you were using a standard kit lens.

If you want to pursue this type of photography there's a product that will greatly assist you, the X-Series Macro Extension Tube range.

The MCEX-11 (11mm) and MCEX-16 (16mm) Fujifilm Extension Tubes can both be combined or used separately with the XF60mm F2.4 (as well as other XF lenses) to achieve a closer image. These Macro Extension Tubes fit between the camera and lens and will increase the distance between the lens elements and the cameras sensor. The result of this will enable you to focus on subjects much closer to the camera.

The beauty of using these solid metal Extension Tubes is that the electronic connectivity is maintained between the XF-Series Lens and X-Series body. The advantage of this is you'll be able to maintain auto focus as well as the electronic aperture information. What's more, when you combine these two Extension Tubes on the XF60mm F2.8 R Macro Lens, you enter a much smaller world that begs to be explored and photographed. In the sample images shown below take a look at the differences in closeness you'll get by combining the Extension Tubes or photographing with them separately. All the images below where photographed handheld at an fixed aperture of F2.4.

As you can see the results when using the X-Series Extension Tubes are fantastic even when displayed online.

Something that's worth noting is both Extension Tubes can be used on a select line up of X-Series lenses. In this pdf document you can see what X-Series lenses will work with the 11mm and 16mm Extension Tubes. The three right hand columns will show the shortest shooting distance when the lens is used by itself, and also when either of the X-Series Extension Tubes have been mounted. The lenses that aren't compatible are represented by grey boxes. The magnification is also displayed for both wide angle and telephoto focal lengths of each of the compatible lenses.

If you're planning on photographing the world closer then the XF60mm F2.4 R Macro Lens combined with a set of X-Series Extension Tubes will be a great option for you. To get some hands on experience with this combination and to find out more we suggest you get in touch with your local X-Series stockist.
