How to Encourage Customers to Take Photos in Your Store

mobile-deviceThe digital opportunities are endless for retailers trying to stand out in a world of smartphones and tablets. While many businesses may find it difficult to stay current on the digital channels, it’s even more difficult to figure out which ones to invest in. However, there’s one trend that continues to dominate consumer behaviour, which could ultimately impact the way retailers engage with their customers—mobile device adoption.

According to the AIMIA 2014 Australian Mobile Phone Lifestyle Index (AMPLI), Australian smartphone penetration is nearly 90 percent, and 60 percent of Australians own a tablet device. But how can you engage with these tech-savvy shoppers and convert them into brand evangelists? One simple tactic is to encourage them to take and print photos from their devices while in your store. Consumers rely on their smartphones to take and store billions of photos each year—by providing an engaging environment for taking photos as well as the technology to print them, you can drive new revenue for your retail shop.

Here are three ways to encourage customers to take and print photos in your store:

1. Set Up a Photo Booth

One way to entice customers to take photos in store with smartphones and tablets is by having an area in your store designated for taking photos, like a photo booth. You can provide props (such as playful picture frames, life-size cutouts of your store mascot, hats or other traditional photo booth items) customers can pose and interact with.

For example, if you want to entice customers to print Christmas photos in store, provide a selection of Christmas-related props, like Santa Claus hats, for them to take photos with.

2. Start a Photo Activity with a Theme and Incentives

If your typical customer is likely to participate in creative activities like taking photos, you can entice them to take and share photos in store by promoting a specific theme or photo activity. Just make sure your theme and incentives align with the expectations and interests of your target audience.

When choosing your incentives, consider ones that align with your brand and attract the people you want to participate. The right incentive or prize should interest existing and future customers, enticing them to engage in a branded experience on mobile.

3. Provide a Photo Printing Kiosk In Store

Having photo-printing technology in your store is an easy way to encourage customers to take photos and then immediately print them while in store. With a multichannel photo solution like FUJIFILM Imagine, you can set up a photo printing station with simply a tablet and Internet connection. Customers can order prints from their own smartphones or your in-store tablet.
