Fujifilm has kindly donated 100 disposable Quicksnap cameras for the project.
Fujifilm is once again proudly partnering with MYSYDNEY/Cafe Art to help support the homeless on Sydney's streets.
After two emotional and rewarding competitions run in 2015 and 2016 (Fujifilm supplying cameras in 2016 only), in which the Cafe Art team were able to positively impact many people's lives and bring groups of people together - those affected by homelessness and those not - to talk about art and photography and things that are meaningful to them, we are now riding the momentum going into this year!
Disposable cameras are given out to members of the affected community, participants are then asked to take photos of areas of the city they like, or are particularly inspired by. The winning photographs are exhibited and then selected by critics and the public, with the top 13 images featuring in the MYSYDNEY calendar.
Following the exhibition, the Cafe Art team curate the photos and begin designing the calendar. The end product is something that enables you to connect to our participants by seeing their stories, why they took the photos they did and to enjoy their creative images.
The exhibition will be hosted upstairs at Lentil As Anything, Newtown, between July 22 and August 19. Please come along for a great opening night on Sunday, August 13 from 3-6 p.m.
This is a very special event for us, in which the artists – all of whom have been affected by homelessness – showcase their art. We feature photos from all the participants, and frame the winning 20 photos. This is also an opportunity for you to vote on the photos for our 2018 calendar.
Launching on World Homeless Day
The calendar will be printed by PrintCraft at cost price once more, and we will be launching the calendar on World Homeless Day, October 10.
The calendar will be available for order online and we will be selling it, with the help of students from UNSW and the winning participants, throughout markets in Sydney.
The MYSYDNEY/Cafe Art Team
MYSYDNEY calendar, the primary initiative of café art Australia, was founded in August 2015 by Mike Allwright, after discussions with the café art based in London. Visit their site for more details http://www.cafeartaustralia.com.
