NEW Fujifilm X-A3: A high performance X Series digital camera to grow into

25 August 2016

24.2 megapixel sensor, 180°slide-and-tilt LCD with 100% visibility, retro design, skin-tone reproduction technology, extended battery life, sophisticated functionality

Fujifilm announced today that it will introduce the NEW X-A3, an X Series mirrorless digital camera designed with the younger generation in mind. With its ability to easily capture self-portraits, the X-A3 features an LCD screen that offers 100% visibility when the panel is tilted by 180 degrees.

The X-A3 sports a fashionable retro design with a newly developed faux leather texture to enhance its look and feel. The top cover, front plate and top dials are made of aluminium. The camera is available in silver, pink or brown.

Newly developed sensor

Combining a newly developed 24.2 megapixel APS-C sensor and colour reproduction technology, the X-A3 delivers premium quality portraiture. The X-A3 also comes equipped with a FUJINON lens that boasts ultimate image resolution to deliver outstanding image quality complete with texture, form and even the atmosphere of the scene.

Complete with the X Series signature colour reproduction technology, the X-A3 produces accurate, warm skin tones, clear blue skies and lush green foliage. In particular, the X-A3 excels with reproducing skin tones making it ideal for people shots, which account for around 40% of all subjects in general photography1.

The Film Simulation function offers 11 modes, including the newly added PRO Neg.Hi and PRO Neg.std. Photographers can enjoy the true to life colours of PROVIA (standard), the vibrant tones and saturated colours of Velvia (vivid), the soft tones of ASTIA (soft) or the documentary-style tones of CLASSIC CHROME. The APS-C sensor delivers beautifully smooth bokeh effects for portraiture and macro shots when using a shallow depth of field.

The normal sensitivity range covers ISO200 - ISO6400, while extended sensitivity settings of ISO12800 and even ISO25600 can be selected when you want to minimise camera shake. The X-A3 produces clear images with astonishingly low noise, even on low light nightscapes and indoor shots where high ISOs are essential.

The X-A3 incorporates 10 Advanced Filters, including the new Fisheye and Cross Screen, as well as Toy Camera, Miniature, Dynamic Tone, Pop Colour, Soft Focus, High Key, Low Key and Partial Colour.

180° slide-and-tilt LCD with 100% visibility for self-portraits

When taking a self-portrait, the 180 degree slide-and-tilt LCD is not blocked by the camera, allowing for 100% visibility. The grip is shaped to accommodate normal shooting, as well as self-portraits. When capturing a self-portrait, you can focus and release the shutter by pressing the vertical command dial directly below your index finger to minimise camera shake.

The Self-Timer function now offers Smile Detection, Buddy Timer and Group Timer modes. Without having to press the command dial or release button, the shutter is released when subjects smile, when two people come close together, or when a specified number of people come into the frame.

When you rotate the titling LCD upward by 180 degrees, the Eye Detection AF is activated to automatically adjust the focus on the subject’s eyes. The Portrait Enhancer also offers three-step adjustments with the new skin-tone brightening function. The LCD on the rear uses a touchscreen to enable Touch AF, Touch Shoot and Touch Zoom.

Super Intelligent Flash system

The built-in pop-up flash supports the Super Intelligent Flash system that accurately controls light output according to individual scenes. When shooting indoor portraits in low-light, small items or food, the flash system reduces highlight clipping to produce images exactly as your eyes see them. Natural colours and brightness are achieved when shooting backlit scenes or photographing a person under intense sunlight that casts strong shadows on the face.

Sophisticated functionality

The use of two Command Dials means you only need a thumb to quickly adjust aperture, shutter speed and exposure settings. Frequently used functions such as white balance, continuous shooting and the self-timer can be assigned to standalone function buttons, eliminating the need to go through the Menu screen each time you need to change settings.

When fitted with the supplied XC16-50mmF3.5-5.6 OIS II lens, the X-A3 can approach a subject up to the class-leading distance of approximately 7cm from the front edge of the lens to enable macro photography.

Energy efficient design

The energy efficient design of the X-A3 has extended the battery life to approximately 410 frames per charge, allowing you to concentrate on shooting images without having to focus on battery power. The supplied USB cable can be used to charge the camera from your AC adapter, computer or portable external battery.

Other X-A3 features include full HD recording; enhanced autofocus settings; versatile shooting functions including an electronic shutter with a maximum speed of 1/32,000 seconds; and wireless communications functionality to enable remote shooting from smartphones and tablet devices2.

FUJIFILM Australia National Product and Marketing Manager – Electronic Imaging, Alex Zitser, said the new X-A3 will appeal to the younger generation with its fresh retro feel, fashionable style, and its ability to maximise any ‘selfie’ opportunities.

The recommended retail price for the Fujifilm X-A3 is $949. It is expected to be available in Australia in October 2016.
