Real Time Electronic Viewfinder

The Fujifilm X-T1 incorporates a newly developed electronic viewfinder that is almost indistinguishable from an optical viewfinder, thanks to its ultra-fast display speed.

It offers a unique wide-angle view (diagonal 38° and horizontal 31°), the world’s highest viewfinder magnification ratio (0.77x) for a digital camera¹ and a display speed with a lag-time of just 0.005 seconds² (one-tenth the speed of conventional digital cameras3).

With its smooth vision, the electronic viewfinder on the Fujifilm X-T1 is also enhanced with a 2.36 million dot resolution OLED display that produces crisp details of what you are viewing to shoot.

Newly designed viewfinder Graphic User Interface

The newly designed Graphic User Interface (GUI) on the viewfinder provides a fresh shooting experience with clear details and an easy at-a-glance view of your settings.

Its four display modes offer a shooting experience that would not be possible with an optical viewfinder:

  1. “FULL” mode takes advantage of the high magnification ratio of the X-T1 viewfinder to provide an unrivalled view of the scene. It displays shooting information at the top and bottom of the screen to avoid obstruction of the view.
  2. “NORMAL” mode provides an optimum view, including shooting settings. It allows you to concentrate on framing the shot in Auto Focus mode while keeping you aware of how the shooting conditions are changing, making it the ideal setting for sports and action photography.
  3. “DUAL” mode is specially designed for manual focusing with a clever split view. It adds a small second screen for checking the focus point with the Digital Split Image™ or Focus Peak Highlight6.
  4. For a “PORTRAIT” view in “NORMAL” and “FULL” modes, the interface automatically rotates when the camera is held vertically.

World’s Fastest AF Speed

The EXR Processor II and new X-Trans™ CMOS II sensor6 incorporates Fujifilm’s proprietary imaging area phase detection enabling the world’s fastest AF of just 0.08 seconds4, while the EXR Processor II allows a super-fast 0.5 second start-up time7, 0.05 second shutter time lag and a 0.5 second shooting interval in MF mode – more than twice the processing speed as the previous processor.

It also allows up to eight frames per second in AF-C shooting mode with tracking AF and is the first ever model2 to be compatible with SDXC UHS-II format memory cards, so the data writing speed in continuous mode increases to about twice that of a conventional card in RAW shooting mode.

Weather resistant design

The Fujifilm X-T1 is a tough, dust and water resistant camera with approximately 80 points of weather sealing, to provide plenty of protection from dirt and moisture. It is also freeze resistant to -10°C, which enables fully-fledged field photography without the need to worry about the weather or the season. The LCD also features tempered glass for additional outdoor protection.

The optional vertical battery grip includes the same hardy structure, so when attached to the Fujifilm X-T1 body, it is also completely secured against the elements.

To complement the X-T1, Fujifilm is also launching three weather resistant zoom lenses during 2014:

  1. XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R OIS WR (available mid 2014)
  2. XF16-55mmF2.8R OIR WR
  3. XF50-140mmF2.8 R OIS WR

Superb manual functionality

The Fujifilm X-T1 features five mechanical dials on the top plate, two command dials on the front and rear, and six fully customisable function buttons.

The top plate includes machined aluminium double-deck dials for the shutter speed, exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, metering and drive modes.

Each dial is designed to turn with a reassuring click, while their textured surfaces provide a firm grip when setting up a shot. With their exposure values clearly marked, settings can be checked at a glance without using the rear LCD and the dials are perfectly arranged so the functions can be changed without removing your eye from the viewfinder.

The six customisable function buttons and two command-dials on the front and rear ensure that whatever setting is desired can be reached in an instant.

Advanced X Trans II Sensor and EXR II Processor

The Fujifilm X-T1 X-Trans II sensor controls moiré and false colour generation by using an original colour filter array with a highly randomised pixel arrangement, removing the need for an Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF). The resolution and low noise on the Fujifilm X-T1 is comparable to models with full-frame sensors.

The EXR Processor II even corrects fractional blurring at the edges of the lens as well as diffraction blur caused when narrowing the aperture. Image quality is further enhanced by the inclusion of a Lens Modulation Optimiser (LMO) for interchangeable lens cameras.

This advanced technology has been made possible by the integrated development of lens, sensor and processor and is based on the optical performance and characteristics of each individual lens to maximise its resolving power.

Enhanced wireless functions

A free “FUJIFILM Camera Remote” application and “Wireless Communication” function allows users to remotely shoot images from smartphones and tablets. Wireless functions include Touch AF, shutter release for stills and movies, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, Film Simulation modes, White Balance, macro, timer and flash.

Instant transfer and location tagging of images via smartphones and tablets is also available (maximum multiple image transfer is 30 photos or 2GB).

Wi-Fi® transfer8 also enables camera data backup onto the computer wirelessly9.

Interval timer shooting

Interval timer shooting is available on the Fujifilm X-T1, allowing time lapse photography with intervals of one second to 24 hours and up to 999 frames.

FUJIFILM Australia Product Manager – Consumer Products, Melissa Butcher, said the X-T1 is a compact, durable and lightweight camera that is compatible with all Fujinon X-Series lenses.

“The X-T1 incorporates sophisticated and intuitive technology, allowing photographers to maximise their creative flair using an array of manual controls to capture superb images - even in dusty, wet or freezing conditions,” she said.

The recommended retail price for the Fujifilm X-T1 is yet to be advised. It is expected to be available in Australia in early March.
